Companionship & Conversation
Shared meals, hobbies, games, music, talk. A consistent friendly presence that breaks up isolation and gives the day a shape.
A familiar, trusted person who keeps your loved one engaged, safe and connected — at home and out in the neighborhood — while you get dependable time to work, rest and breathe. If they have a Pennsylvania ODP waiver, it costs your family $0 out-of-pocket.
What is Companion Services? It's an ODP waiver service that provides consistent companionship and supervision for a person with a disability — shared activities, conversation, safety monitoring and community outings. It keeps the individual engaged and safe, and gives family caregivers scheduled, dependable time back. It is support and connection, not hands-on personal care.
Caring for a family member with a disability is a full-time act of love — and love still needs a break. Companion Services puts a trained, background-checked professional alongside your loved one on a schedule you can actually rely on: same person, same days, no scrambling.
What the hours look like is up to the individual. Board games and conversation at the kitchen table. A walk to the park or the corner store. A movie, a hobby, a Phillies game on TV with someone who'll argue the bullpen. The companion is matched on personality and shared interests, because company only counts when it's company the person actually enjoys.
Every hour is authorized through the Individual Support Plan and coordinated with your Supports Coordinator — so the engagement, the supervision and your respite are all part of the plan, not an afterthought.
Built around the person's interests and your family's schedule — these are the shapes it most often takes.
Shared meals, hobbies, games, music, talk. A consistent friendly presence that breaks up isolation and gives the day a shape.
Attentive monitoring at home and on outings — someone trained to notice, redirect and respond, so the person stays safe without feeling watched.
The park, the library, the corner store, a walk around the block. Staying part of the neighborhood, with support alongside.
Scheduled hours you can build your week around — work a shift, keep an appointment, rest — knowing exactly who's with your loved one.
Reminders, encouragement and gentle prompts that keep the day's routine on track — meals, activities, downtime — without taking it over.
Companions paired by shared interests and temperament — not just availability — because the relationship is the service.
Four steps — and we handle the coordination on most of them.
Call (484) 229-3455 or send the request form. Tell us about the person, their interests and the schedule that would help your family most.
We contact your Supports Coordinator to confirm Companion Services is authorized in the Individual Support Plan, and for how many hours.
We pair a background-checked professional on personality and shared interests — and if the fit isn't right, we re-match. That's expected, not a complaint.
Services begin, usually within two weeks of authorization — same companion, same days, a schedule your family can finally plan around.
Companion Services is one of four ODP services under one roof — most families combine two or more.
